Wedding Bands are used by couples of many different cultures
and beliefs, as a symbol of their commitment to each other and their love for
one another. Couples that have made the decision to wear wedding rings as the
traditional symbol for their marriage have a wide variety of options from which
to choose as they make their selections.
Couples can choose rings that are made from one of several
traditional metals. Gold, both yellow gold and white gold, are commonly chosen
metals, so is silver. Gold and silver have been used throughout history for
rings as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. We are now seeing rings made in other metals
as well, such as platinum, titanium, and palladium. Interestingly enough, we
are also seeing rings made of a certain type of ceramic. Stainless steel is
also used for making wedding rings. Whatever the couple chooses for their
wedding rings, it is recommended that they be made out of a high quality and
long lasting metal.
Other wedding rings incorporate one or more precious stones
into the setting or design. Diamonds are commonly used for wedding rings, and
are set into both men’s wedding rings and women’s wedding rings. Diamonds set
into bands of this nature tend not to be too large; the large stones tend to be
set into the woman’s engagement ring, and the diamonds in her band tend to be
smaller, complementary stones. Of course, this is not a hard and fast rule.
Other stones used in wedding ring settings are rubies, emeralds, and amethysts,
just to name a few.
Sometimes couples choose wedding bands that are perhaps not
as common as the usual type of rings selected. For example, some wedding rings
may have crosses, leaves, scrolls, etc. either engraved into them, or the ring
may actually be carved into these intricate shapes. Some rings have a Celtic
design, to show Celtic ancestry for those who choose this type of design.
Some couples will choose to wear antique wedding rings. Some
couples may be fortunate enough to have inherited beautiful, heirloom rings
from their parents, or grandparents, or another family member. In this case, it
might be wise to have the ring properly sized, and to also have it
professionally cleaned and get the setting checked, to ensure that any stones
that are present will not fall out of the ring’s setting. There are actually
antique rings that can be purchased brand new. Even though they are new, these
rings are considered to be antique because of their design, or because of the
metal chosen for their design. So, for example, many of these rings are made of
white gold, and are styled in a way to suggest times past.
Whatever wedding bands a couple decides to purchase to
commemorate their relationship, and to exchange on their special day, they are
going to make sure they take the time to choose the perfect rings. They can
then rest assured that they have chosen rings that are going to last for years
to come.
